Hi Crafters,
It was Kate's turn to choose a theme for our friendly challenge this time and she has given us 'Christmas Scenes'.
I had a Papermania decoupage sheet with this beautiful Christmas Night Scene and thought this would fit perfectly in to the theme.
It had three layers to complete the picture but I feel as though I have cheated as it was die-cut too so just a case of popping it out and layering it up. I'm so used to taking hours to make one card by colouring the image and picking out papers, finding a sketch or design to follow and then putting it all together that this was done in a flash. However the fact that I need to make as many Christmas cards as I can to stock my stall and give out to family and friends means that these sheets are a Godsend.
But then I felt guilty so I made another card, lol...
Not a traditional Christmas Scene but a lovely wintry scene at that.
I used a Dreamweaver Stencil to apply embossing paste on to some thick cardstock and before it dried I sprinkled black glitter over it, this created the background trees. I then layered another tree-scape die-cut on top which I think is a Taylored Expressions die (I bought ten from Ebay and I can't quite remember). The deer and single die-cut tree in the front are both Memory Box dies and they were layered up too showing the deer coming out from behind the trees. A quick dusting of glamour dust on the branches for the snow.
The banner was cut using a Spellbinder die and the sentiment is from a Papermania set. A little silver metal snowflake and organza bow to finish.
A side view shows the dimension:

ReplyDeleteThese are both beautiful cards Lorraine. It's so true, the card kits are great when you have a bulk amount to get done, but I admit I am always more drawn to cards that are made from scratch. Your gorgeous deer scene is absolutely breathtaking!! I love how you layered the trees behind and in front of the deer, it really makes the scene come to life!! hugs :)

Got your email thanks Lorraine, will be responding to it later, must get jobs done first. Boo! I would love to swap some embellishments with you, I have lots of different ones here so will send you my details via email. x
ReplyDeleteLove both your cards, die cuts are great when you have so many Christmas cards to make; a great scene in your first card. I know what you mean though, but it's good to cheat now and again!
I love your snowy scene on your second card and the deer through the woods, very Christmassie.
I am the one who is really busy at work in the run up to Christmas so should really be very organised and make now. What would Christmas be without the sheer mad panic of card making two weeks before! (Or even giving up and buying! Wash out my mouth!)
Happy crafting and well done getting your Christmas cards started, I'm very envious!
Hugs Erika. x
Wow Lorraine these are gorgeous designs, stunning!

Hi, Lorraine! What fab cards!(though I can't even contemplate Christmas at this time of year!) Especially love the deer in the trees card - clever!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words, it means a lot - I think I have just been feeling a bit down in the dumps and need to give myself a short, sharp kick up the jacksie! Hugs, Lisa x
#1 is just gorgeous, and I could see the ice hanging on the branches. The cool blue just added to that wintery, Christmas scene. And #2 is a technique I've wanted to try for years, with the epaste & glitter, and I have that very Dreamweaver stencil, bought when I saw the technique demo'd on a trip. And the Birches & buck are indeed Taylored Expressions die. (Wanna ask how I know this?). You've used all these products to make 2 very splendid & beautiful cards. Well done, Miss Lorraine! TFS & Hugs
ReplyDeleteBoth of these cards have such gorgeous dimension and texture, and I really love the wintery scenes - so Christmassy :-)
ReplyDeleteBig hugs, Kat xx
